Sustainability built into better cabinets.
At Cossiga, we believe great design should do more than look good. It should perform better, last longer, and reduce environmental impact over its lifetime.
Designed with responsibility from the start.
Our philosophy, Green by Design, guides the way we design, manufacture, and operate around the world.
It means making considered, measurable, and innovative choices across our products, supply chain, refrigerant technology, and day-to-day operations.
Sustainability is an ongoing journey. We are continually learning, improving, and working with expert partners to better understand and reduce our environmental impact.
Product efficiency is a major part of that work. Refrigeration can operate for long hours every day, so even modest efficiency gains can compound over a cabinet's working life. Choosing lower-impact refrigerant technology can reduce electricity demand, indirect emissions and the amount of refrigerant required in the system — while helping lower lifetime operating costs.
Measured Impact
We measure emissions and use data to guide better environmental decisions.
Efficient Operation
Lower energy use helps reduce running costs and lifetime emissions.
Built to Last
Durable, high-performing cabinets help reduce waste and extend product life.
Future Ready
Smarter refrigerant choices help customers move away from older high-GWP gases.
The efficiency case for R290.
The energy-efficiency figure used in Cossiga's R290 material is supported by independent 2024 testing of four light-commercial refrigerators comparing R290 directly with R404A. Across the tested systems, R290 reduced energy consumption by 15–35%, while also reducing refrigerant charge, charging cost and carbon emissions.
Lower energy consumption
Reported reduction in energy use for R290 systems compared with R404A systems across the tested cabinets.
Lower carbon emissions
The same comparative study reported lower total carbon emissions after changing from R404A to R290.
Less refrigerant charge
R290 charge was only 20.6–34.3% of the R404A charge — equivalent to roughly 65.7–79.4% less refrigerant.
Lower charging cost
The published comparison reported R290 refrigerant charging cost at about half the cost of R404A.
Display cabinets show the same efficiency direction.
A 2026 experimental study tested R290, R404A and R454C in commercial refrigerators and display cabinets. For the display cabinets, R290 reduced 24-hour energy consumption by 11.9–15.7% versus R404A, while the R290 refrigerant charge was only 16.4–23.6% of the R404A charge.
For the commercial refrigerators in the same study, R290 reduced 24-hour energy consumption by 16.7–35%. These are independent test results, not guaranteed Cossiga product savings, but they reinforce the efficiency case for R290 in light-commercial refrigeration.

Lower impact. Lower running costs. Better lifetime value.
Cossiga cabinets use R290 natural refrigerant, not older high-GWP refrigerants such as R404A or R134a.
R290 has a global warming potential of just 3.3, compared with 3,922 for R404A and 1,430 for R134a.
The environmental improvement is significant, but the commercial benefit is just as important. In a 2024 comparative study of four light-commercial refrigerators, R290 systems used 15–35% less energy than comparable R404A systems and reduced total carbon emissions by 25.3–43.7%. Lower power demand can mean lower electricity bills and lower indirect emissions over the cabinet's working life.
The same testing found that the R290 charge required was only 20.6–34.3% of the R404A charge, while charging cost was about 50% lower. That means less refrigerant material in the system as well as a lower-cost charge.
Customers are not just buying a display cabinet — they are investing in a more efficient, lower-impact, future-ready asset.

The study reported 15–35% lower energy consumption, 25.3–43.7% lower carbon emissions, R290 charge equal to 20.6–34.3% of R404A charge, and charging cost at about half. A separate 2026 study in the International Journal of Refrigeration reported 11.9–15.7% lower 24-hour energy use for R290 display cabinets versus R404A. Results depend on product design and test conditions and should not be read as guaranteed savings for every Cossiga cabinet.
The difference is clear
GWP values compare the warming impact of a refrigerant against carbon dioxide. Lower GWP means lower climate impact if refrigerant is released.
